Responsibilities

  1. Conducts thorough research using sources such as state and federal statutes, judicial decisions, agency opinions and guidance, legal articles, treaties, and online research tools.
  2. Drafts legal documents and correspondence, including cease and desist letters and responses to administrative charges.
  3. Examines, analyzes and interprets bank documents, including personnel records and employment policies.
  4. Investigates the underlying facts of potential employee relations issues and other matters.
  5. Works with outside counsel on gathering relevant documents and other matters.
  6. Issue and maintain litigation holds.
  7. Research and process citations and other legal documents served on the bank and its affiliates.
  8. Performs administrative duties, including file maintenance, invoice processing, report generation/review and the administration and maintenance of internal databases and case management systems.
  9. Responsible for strict adherence to all compliance and regulatory requirements as well as department policies and procedures.



Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  1. Candidates must have a high-school diploma or equivalent with a technical or vocational paralegal certification or equivalent education or work experience.
  2. The entry level Paralegal requires a minimum of one year of legal experience. Additional experience is required for advanced levels within the job family. (see Job Family Levels)
  3. Must have a thorough knowledge of legal statutes, proceedings, and the customs and practices for examining, organizing and processing legal documents.
  4. Must have advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Google apps, menu-driven software, internet research and familiarity with online legal resources such as LexisNexis and Westlaw.
  5. Capable of effectively communicating information in a professional and confidential manner.
  6. Self-motivated, able to accomplish goals through effective time-management and organizational skills.
  7. Collaborative, able to build trust and foster innovation with team members, business partners and outside counsel.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications

    1. Preference may be given to candidates with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree, with or without CP designation.
    2. Labor and Employment law experience and/or Human Resources or employee relations experience.
    3. Strong organization skills and ability to work efficiently.

 

Working Conditions

  1. This job has no unusual physical requirements; nearly all work is performed in a seated position in a climate-controlled indoor facility.
  2. Incumbents must be able to communicate verbally in-person and on the telephone and to view information electronically and in print.
  3. This job involves the use of a computer and other standard office equipment that requires manual dexterity.
  4. This job occasionally involves standing or walking.
  5. This job rarely involves bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing stairs or lifting and carrying more than 10 pounds.
  6. Incumbents are required to maintain an awareness of both personal safety and environmental safety.
  7. This job has strict deadlines with variable lead times; work volume can be unpredictable.
  8. Interruptions from peers, business partners, managers or others may be present with the need to prioritize tasks.

II

Under general supervision, performs essential functions and fulfills direct responsibilities.  Seeks guidance from attorney or more experienced paralegal on unusual matters.

Has a well-developed knowledge of the concepts, practices and procedures of a particular area of specialization as well as related fields and their effect on own area. Refers to policies and procedures in the evaluation and resolution of issues.

High-school diploma or equivalent, plus a Certified Paralegal designation and a minimum of three years of paralegal experience.       

III

Independently performs essential functions and fulfills direct responsibilities. 

Possesses and applies a broad knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures required for position to the completion of difficult assignments.  Applies policies and procedures and also considers precedent to situations in the evaluation and resolution of issues. 

High-school diploma or equivalent, plus a Certified Paralegal designation and a minimum of five years of paralegal experience.
