Responsibilities

FUNCTION:

This position underwrites ​commercial real estate ​loan requests in a high-volume environment, while adhering to department/bank policies and guidelines. 

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists and counsels originators in qualifying loans, determining borrower's needs, determining appropriate commercial loan product in light of needs, and obtaining requisite financial data.
  • Reviews credit requests, business credit scores, business reports and consumer bureaus.
  • Evaluates collateral adequacy, industry risk, purpose and viability of business. 
  • Obtains and analyzes pertinent financial and credit data to assist in determining the risk of the loan.
  • Determines appropriate structure and pricing in light of borrower type, industry, collateral, and risk and documenting any deviations from the prescribed structure.
  • Assesses strengths and weaknesses of loan requests.
  • Completes financial and repayment analysis with a focus on cash flow, liquidity, and leverage analysis.
  • Thoroughly documents the credit request in the appropriate format.
  • Verifies underwriting conditions and additional approval requirements are satisfied.
  • Ensures effective communication between Relationship Managers, Loan Administration, Loan Documentation & Funding Control and other departments involved in the loan process. 
  • Strives to minimize turnaround-time while thorough documenting credit requests.
  • Responsible for Credit File maintenance

 

Qualifications

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business related field business with emphasis in management, accounting, finance or a related field or equivalent professional experience.
  • All candidates must have superior verbal, written and organizational skills and possess an understanding of business and personal financial statements.
  • Must be able to prioritize tasks demonstrating both management skills and ability to achieve communicated deadlines.
  • High integrity and respect for confidentiality are invaluable.
  • Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Professional phone and communication skills are required.

 

EXPERIENCE:

 

Commercial Underwriter III:

Candidates must have a minimum of 3 years of previous underwriting or credit analysis experience. 

 

Commercial Underwriter Sr:

Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of previous underwriting or credit analysis experience. Formal credit or commercial loan training and some previous credit decisioning preferred. Exposure to a wide variety of commercial credits and the professional/executive market segment is preferred.
